About the Event
Welcome to the 2020 Bristol Trail Runners Christmas Competition. Rescheduled to November to keep us busy during lockdown 2.0!
Races have been sparse this year, so for a bit of fun, we have organised this virtual 10.7km virtual race to raise some money for Suicide Prevention Bristol. Charities have really been struggling this year, so it is important that we do our bit to support them. You choose the entry fee via a donation to our Suicide Prevention Bristol Just Giving Page and 100% of entry fee money goes to the charity. We have collected some awesome prizes from Joe Wenman Coaching, Kinetic Sports and Precision Hydration which can be seen below.
How to take part:
- To enter, all you need to do is RSVP to this event and donate any amount you wish on our Suicide Prevention Bristol Just Giving Page.
- The route can be downloaded from this link in GPX Format and a 1:12000 OS Map. You really need to be able to run the GPX on a watch or phone application as the OS map is not very clear. A lot of running watches can do this, but you can also use the Ordenance Survey App and a variety of other apps.
- You can practice the route as many times as you wish.
- Your official run must take place between the 6th of November and the 20th of December and no entries will be accepted after 20.00 on the 30th. You must rename your Strava activity with the hashtag #BTRXmas so we can import your result into our Active Teams results page. This will only work if your Strava privacy is set to 'Everyone' or if you you want to keep your page private, it will also work if you follow Active Teams on Strava.
- The route starts at the Leigh Woods car park. As you drive in, you'll see a car park ticket machine on your right hand side (the first one, not the one right at the end of the car park). You must start your run recording stood within 2m of the machine, and end it when you are within 2m of the machine, following the provided route.
- You'll set off and follow the trail to North Road. Go out of the gate and back in the other gate and head up the small hill (NOT down Nightingale Valley). When you get to the top, bear right over the grassy area and follow that woodland path to the Suspension Bridge Viewpoint. From here you are following the purple arrows until you get back to the other end of the car park. Head downhill towards the Avon and follow the main trail until you get to a steed decline switchback. After the switch back you take a sharp left at the end of the fence and head on a minor trail or sheeptrack. Follow this to the river Avon. Turn right onto the Avon towpath, follow for a while until you get to Nightiongale Valley. Run up the hill, back out and in the gate and follow the trail back to the car park. (YOU WILL NEED A MAP/GPX).
- Tag your Strava Activity using #BTRXmas in the title.
